How To Clean Waxed Chain
Washing bike with waxed chain
I'm thinking about getting some chain wax, but I don't know the practicality of cleaning the frame when the chain doesn't need re-waxing. I prefer to keep my frame spotless (I'd wash it after every ride if I had the time -- probably wash two or three times a week now with 4-6 rides), but is it best to keep water away from the chain when I don't want to redo the wax?
I'm basically looking for the bike-washing process when the chain is waxed.

Get a quick link and the accommodating tool and simply remove your chain if you're concerned. Takes only a couple seconds.

Is there concern with reusing these links? I rarely remove my chain so I don't know of the longevity of the links. I use a KMC 11-speed chain and KMC Missing Link.

Drip on solvent-carried wax or crock-pot melted wax? The former will wash off easier, but either way I feel you can apply wax lube based on chain noise level. (EDIT: in other words I'm saying "apply it when it needs applied")
But I'm also guessing your drivetrain does not need soap 2-3x a week unless you ride in the wet or you overlube your chain. Wipe it down, keep the soapy scub off of it, and then you don't need to worry about washing off the lube either way.

I would use the melted wax (submerging the chain in melted wax). I'll probably try to remove the chain when giving the bike anything more than a cursory spray so the chain doesn't lose its wax.

Handy wipes will do a great spot clean if you want a quick after ride solution. I keep a box under my bench for high end (or well maintained) bikes. I often use carbon fibre cleaner and a shop rag when appropriate. This is for times when your not doing a full drive train clean. When you just want to clean up the frame.

What kind of handy wipes do you use?

Great job on keeping the steel steed clean! It's a good habit to stay in.
Ideally you want to redo the chain wax each time you wash the bike since water gets into the chain and pushes the wax out. The only idea I have around this would be wrapping a plastic bag around the whole chain set. However, often the dirtiest place on the bike is around the chain and derailleurs...

I'm addicted to that 'clean bike' look that makes people wonder whether my bike actually gets used...
