How To Clean Out 2 Stroke Exhaust

1. ok guys, I have searched here and on the net at other places. I have read about a few techniques for cleaning out the inside of a 2stroke exhaust to get the carbon build up out.

   I was wondering which techniques yall have used that ACTUALLY WORKED!

   I have read about heating it up but i feel there has to be a better way that wont ruin the finish of your pipe.

   another technique that i saw was using caustic soda. I read that this did work and then I read that it did NOT work....which one is true? does it ruin the coating on the inside/outside of the pipe?

   then another technique that i heard about was to use brake cleaner or oven cleaner....anybody had ACTUAL success with these? i heard that some worked and some didnt.

   I have researched it, but i just want to know which way actually worked and did the least harm to the pipe.

2. my scooter evolves so much im on my 4th pipe, which is good for internal cleanliness :lol:

   ive tried the caustic soda method, back in the day, with some success...

3. hmmmm caustic soda cant touch aluminum cuz it eats it away. how often do you come across full aluminum scooter pipes??

5. after a few recommendations to do with running of mine - my exhaust is out in the garden as we speak full of caustic soda, will let you know what comes out tomorrow when i empty it....

7. well, i cant speak about how its affected the running of my bike as its draining and drying over night...

   but i emptied it out last night, and ran it through with a hose to rinse it, and before doing it there was barely a trickle of water making it through the exhaust, now it seems to be much more free flowing - and well the liquid that came out, was as black as oil, kindy sludgey...

   with any luck i will put it back on my bike today and let you know if it has made any difference... it must have done something positive as anything will be an improvement for mine.

8. i heard that you may have to tap the pipe with a rubber hammer to break more stuff up. from reading, ive gathered that the caustic soda just pulls all of the oil out of the build up and then just leave pieces of carbon. carbon is brittle and so it breaks into pieces and you can get it out.

   You cant fully clean out a pipe without cutting it open, cleaning then re-welding it up... But I've had some success with just using straight petrol.

   Block off one side of the pipe first, then fill it up with petrol.. Block off the otherside.. Let it sit for a couple days, lightly tapping it with a rubber mallet all over a few times a day.

   Then when you empty it, shake the living hell outta it before removing your "block offs", then empty out all the sludgy petrol and aye presto, clean(ish) pipe!! :thumbsup:

10. i remember someone telling me a few years ago that MR MUSCLE drain cleaner, the expanding foam stuff works a treat. never tried it myself though, in the past i have used caustic soda with great results but does take a few attempts to clear out.

11. well after some soaking with the "oil killing stuff" do yall think if you ran a brush in and out, that it would knock a bit more loose?

12. try brake cleaner as it cleans up oilliy shit all day long people in the trade use it for alot loljust getanother pipe make you like easyer lol

13. new pipe is always a thought, but its hard(expensive) to get the good pipes imported here. the shipping is like an extra $100
